
Stop Worrying About Your Chemical Cleaning Zones
If you’re heating up cleaning baths full of volatile solvents, using a standard IR lamp is basically asking for trouble. Between the intense heat and the ozone these lamps kick out, you’re playing a risky game. One wrong move and you’ve got an unplanned reaction or seals that degrade way faster than they should. That’s why we built our ozone-free infrared lamps. We wanted to take those risks off the table entirely. The deal with ozone Here is the problem: standard short-wave lamps put out radiation around 185nm. That specific wavelength splits oxygen molecules and creates ozone. Now, in a normal room, that’s one thing. But in a chemical cleaning setup? Ozone is an aggressive oxidizer. It loves to mess with flammable vapors or eat away at your machine’s chassis. We fixed this by using a specialized quartz envelope. We “dope” the quartz with specific elements that block that 185nm wavelength. You still get all the heat you need, but none of the corrosive gases. Keeping the chemicals out A bare lamp tube doesn’t stand a chance against a chemical splash. It’ll fail, and fast. To stop that, we wrap our units in high-grade, chemically resistant quartz or specialized glass. But the real danger is usually the seals. That’s where things leak. We use high-temperature fluoroelastomer gaskets to keep solvent vapors from sneaking into the electrical terminals. Because if a seal fails and a spark hits a vapor-rich zone? Well, you know how that ends. A quick heads-up on installation These lamps are great for getting your bath up to temperature fast—way faster than those clunky immersion heaters. But there is a small trade-off. Because that ozone-blocking quartz is specialized, it doesn’t let quite as much light through as raw, clear quartz. You might find you need a slightly higher wattage to hit your target temp if you’re switching over from standard lamps. Just a couple of last things: double-check that your wiring can handle the current draw and make sure your housing is grounded. A floating ground in a chemical environment is a recipe for disaster. Keep it tight, keep it grounded, and you’re good to go.
