
Getting the Light Right in Infrared Bathroom Heaters
Most infrared lamps are basically light cannons. They blast out a wide spectrum of light, which includes that blinding glare and UV rays that nobody wants. If you’re in a bathroom—especially if there’s a baby involved—that kind of brightness isn’t just annoying; it’s a real problem. We handle this by tweaking how the light actually behaves.
Saving Your Eyes
Usually, these high-heat lamps use a quartz shell. To keep things safe for your eyes, we use a special coating or a specific quartz blend that blocks out those harsh “blue light” peaks. Think of it as a filter. We’re narrowing the spectrum and pushing the energy into the long-wave infrared band. This means you get all the warmth soaking into your skin, but you aren’t flooding your retinas with blinding light. There’s a bit of a trade-off here. By filtering out the visible light, the lamp isn’t as “bright,” but that’s exactly the point. We’re keeping the heat right where it belongs.
The Guts of the Machine
We build these to handle being turned on and off constantly. The filaments are tuned to a specific wattage so the surface temperature doesn’t just spike instantly. Nobody likes that “shock” feeling on their skin when they step under a heater. We also stick to a low-voltage drive. It keeps the glow soft. You might be tempted to crank up the wattage to get heat faster, but that’s a gamble. You’ll end up with more glare and a much higher chance of burning out the filament.
Getting the Install Right
You can’t just toss these into any old fixture and hope for the best. Because we use those filtered shells, the way the heat spreads is a little different. You’ve got to get your reflectors dialed in. The infrared rays need to go straight down, not scatter all over the room. If the reflector is off by even a bit, you’re just wasting energy. We suggest mounting them at least 2.2 meters up. That way, the warmth spreads evenly and you don’t end up with those annoying “hot spots” that feel like a heat lamp at a buffet.
