We built the under-tile heater to put infrared radiant heat right into the floor, so cold surfaces become a steady source of gentle warmth instead of a shock. What matters, technically An under-tile heater is a thin electric radiant panel meant to sit beneath finished tile, stone, or porcelain. Inside, you’ll typically find a carbon fiber element or quartz-based infrared film, laying heat evenly across the floor. Surface temperatures stay well below what you feel underfoot. Output is sized to the room—commonly 80–150 watts per square foot—on either 120V or 240V, depending on the layout. A built-in thermostat keeps control tight, and safety features like overheat protection and tip-over protection make day-to-day use straightforward. Here’s why this approach works: infrared warmth doesn’t just chase the air temperature. It warms people and objects first, so comfort hits faster—even when the room air reads cooler. Under tile, that means stepping out of the shower onto a surface that feels welcoming, not jarring. The heat spreads evenly, so there aren’t cold patches that make you reach for extra towels or slippers. Around the house, it’s a low-profile upgrade that makes daily routines feel a little better. Now, a couple of practical notes. Installation is clean, but it does require planning. The panel needs a stable, clean subfloor, with expansion space left at the edges, and it should be paired with a thermostat that’s suited to radiant floors.
